Your subsidy
Subsidy by system size
Under the MNRE guidelines of July 2025, a home gets ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW. Nothing more is paid above 3 kW, so the most a home can get is ₹78,000. In special category states the rates are 10% higher: ₹33,000 and ₹19,800, up to ₹85,800.
| System size | Most states | Special category states |
|---|---|---|
| 1 kW | ₹30,000 | ₹33,000 |
| 1.5 kW | ₹45,000 | ₹49,500 |
| 2 kW | ₹60,000 | ₹66,000 |
| 2.5 kW | ₹69,000 | ₹75,900 |
| 3 kW | ₹78,000 | ₹85,800 |
| 4 kW or more | ₹78,000 | ₹85,800 |
Which states get the higher rate
The special category rate applies in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, all eight North Eastern states including Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep. Pick your state in the calculator and it applies the right rate.
Housing societies and RWAs
A registered housing society or resident welfare association can claim ₹18,000 per kW for a system that powers common areas such as lifts, corridor lights, water pumps and EV charging. The subsidy counts up to 3 kW for each home in the society and 500 kW in total. A 20-flat society can claim on up to 60 kW, or ₹10.8 lakh.
Who qualifies
- A residential electricity connection in your name. Shops, offices and factories do not qualify.
- A roof you own or have the right to use, with enough shade-free space.
- Panels made with Indian cells (DCR) from a model on the government’s ALMM list.
- A vendor registered on the PM Surya Ghar portal for your DISCOM.
- No earlier central subsidy for rooftop solar on the same connection.
How and when the money arrives
- Register on pmsuryaghar.gov.in with your electricity connection details.
- Get feasibility approval from your DISCOM and have a registered vendor install the system.
- Submit the installation details. The DISCOM inspects it and installs the net meter.
- Add your bank details on the portal. The subsidy is paid straight to your account.
Recent 2026 reports put payment at about 30 days after commissioning for clean applications. Claims are most often held up by a panel that is not DCR, a mismatch between the name on the bill and the bank account, or photos that do not show the installed system clearly.
